Past Chapter Events
NBA Georgia paired with NBA South Carolina, also a recently inaugurated chapter, to put on an event titled “Building Bridges with Brownfields” on April 17, 2008 in Augusta at the Enterprise Mill. Speakers included Eddie Butler, Aiken County Councilman; Gail Jeter, S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control; Mayor Bryan Thompson, City of Augusta and NBA Georgia Chapter President; Tom Davis spoke on the Jasper Port project; Joan Donnelly, Aiken County Assistant Administrator presented on the Seminole Mill project; and Clay Boardman, developer for Enterprise Mill, talked about the redevelopment of the mill and gave a walking tour. Attendees also enjoyed a boat tour of Augusta Canal. View pictures of the event here.
The first full chapter event, “NBA Georgia Brownfield Conference: Actions & Opportunities,” was a success with over 60 attendees, held on November 16, 2007 in Brunswick. Mayor Bryan Thompson, NBA Georgia Chapter President, hosted us at the historic city hall and guided a bus tour of local brownfield projects, including Liberty Harbor, a $2 billion, 135-acre development. Featured speakers included Commissioner Jason Harper, Henry County and former Chapter President; Mayor Thompson; and Mark Smith, Ga. EPD; Jerry Keen, Ga. House Majority Leader. The chapter held its inaugural reception on July 12, 2007 at Atlantic Station. Featured speakers included Robert Colangelo, NBA CEO; Commissioner Jason Harper, Henry County and former Chapter President; Georgia Lt. Governor Casey Cagle; Tony Galioto, AIG Companies; Jim Jacoby, Jacoby Development; and Mayor Bryan Thompson, City of Brunswick and Chapter President. Over 100 attendees came out.
