Chapter’s Technical Assistance Pilot Project to Aid Brownfield Redevelopment in Mesa

The Arizona Chapter designed a Technical Assistance Pilot Project (TAPP) to provide education about the benefits of brownfield redevelopment and to increase awareness of the new chapter as a credible, reliable resource. Chapter members are working with the city of Mesa to provide assistance on brownfields development matters for a former eight-acre industrial site, which is part of a larger area that Mesa is targeting for future commercial development. The historical uses of the site and current unknown conditions have hindered development. The Arizona Chapter TAPP team. which is conducting the work in phases, has provided the City with a detailed presentation on various aspects of brownfields redevelopment, and assisted in obtaining a targeted brownfields assessment grant for the site from EPA. The next phase of the TAPP team’s work will be conducted upon completion of site assessment activities and will focus on providing information about making the site developable. The site and the chapter’s work were mentioned in an article in the Arizona Republic at http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/08/14/20090814mr-talley0815.html
